My Story
Silversmithing is a passion that found me after a trip to Ireland inspired my exploration of metal and fiber arts. I returned home and found a local silversmith, took classes and never stopped. Once I took the torch in my hand I began to learn the language of metalwork, and soon found that sparking the torch did more than ignite my inner creativity; it illuminated my soul.
I create handmade jewelry for hours in a timeless zone, guided by chemistry and inspired by intuition. Each unique jewelry piece begins with earth elements of metal, fire, air and water and develops into expressions of wearable art. I see myself as a translator between element and human and find myself acting as a soul alchemist for those who wish to invite a power amulet or talisman into their world.
The diversity of life has taught me to welcome learning opportunities and I’ve been greatly rewarded with new ideas and wonderful associations because of that. I love to experiment with different mediums, stones, textures, and processes like etching, folding, enameling and patina to create unique jewelry designs.
My life as an artist is greatly enriched when I’m able to share my knowledge through teaching jewelry making classes. I’ve watched students discover a new way of connecting with themselves through metalwork as they create their own rings and pendants in my workshopsLearning the languages of alchemy has created a fluid dialog between my art and myself and offers those who learn with me and wear my creations a connection to themselves and the earth in a unique and personal way.
Asia is an awarded and accredited jewelry maker, and has been making handmade jewelry since 2014.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Serendipity and I have become good friends and I see it’s magic almost everywhere. It is through this perspective I choose to work with the metals and stones on my bench. There is a very real synergy that happens when a piece begins. The partnership between you, me and the elements finds form through the process that emerges as your piece of jewelry. When I create a design, it is more than just what comes from my mind, it is a process that forms itself in front of me through the spirit of metal and stones connecting to you, coming through me. It is a true form of alchemy that is a reflection of the mystery of life and I have a deep respect for that.
